The day before I started my rockclimbing course.. I was set on another day of beaches. The nearest beach is called Ao Nang. Its a tourist resort area...thats why I am not staying there, but it is fun touring the area. Look What I found. Its the middle of Jan and christmas trees are everywhere. I guess they didn't get the notice that christmas decoration come down after new years... or its because we are on Thailand time.

The first day was a day of relearning belaying techniques and working my way up the mountain. I made it up all that I tried. Ya ya we were doing the easiest routes but thats besides the point. I love rockclimbing. Thats all I have to say I am going to say it again and again. I forgot about climbing... uni took up too much time.

My fast asleep climbing partner. This 28 year old doc could keep up with my 20 year old energy. :) So times I don't mind being the babe traveller. He did try to keep up.

As strange as it looks, I was climbing up without the rock. It was tough, I don't have a lot of upper body strength. Basically there is a special knot on the rope and a strap is attached to it. I stand on the strap and use one arm to help and with the other hand i pull the red rope. So i slowly move up. Then I move the knot up the rope and try again and again. It definitly worked me up into a sweat.

After a while, you need a brake. I was having fun hanging around. :P
The area I was playing in, is right on East Railey beach and there were about 20 other ppl climbing around me... I was the crazy one chilling, hanging out literally. I was putting on a little show for everyone waiting their turn to climb. I am don't have great climbing technic, but I will work on that.

This is Tick, my thai guide. I met his western girlfriend on my second day of climbing. As it turns out most of the thai guys teaching here have foreign girl friends. Railey is an area that climbers come and stay for months on end. I now see why. One day I will come back... after I practice my skills.

Along this lead climbing, top rope climbing, I have tried my hand in repelling. So when I go back to UofC I can repell from the top to the bottom instead ofclimbing the the ladder.
It was alittle scarying repelling for my first time, but i made it down with everything still attached.
Today is the rest day.. and my body needs it. Every muscle is soar. Even typing hurts.
I have found a sport I definitly love with a passion.

Hey Alisha,

I know I haven't left a comment yet, but its not because I haven't been following your adventures! It sounds like you've been having an amazing time and I hope you haven't forgotten about all of us in Calgary. I guess I never posted anything because nothing that is going on here could even remotely top what you're experiencing!! Anyways, I love you and I miss you - when are you going to Australia? Take care and keep having great adventures.

xoxo
