Truthfully it doesn't actually run out until tomorrow but I definitely wanted to renew it the day before just encase something didn't go as planned... things rarely do when I am involved.
The city center park in Nakhom Si Tammarath
The city center park in Nakhom Si Tammarath
I had enough of tours and tourist so when I ended up in Nakhom Si Tammarath I was happy, but surprised to find myself in a town with no white faces. There were no tourist information offices selling tours... nothing... and I found the town amazing. After I left the Internet gaming place filled with little Thia ppl trying to read my email and looking for my shoulder.. They thought I was the most amazing thing, I feel so out of place. But its a good weird thing. People all smile and say hi. I know i have said that before but there are.I past the famous Wat (temple) in the area and I am not sure what was going on exactly but there were 5 contains on fire people sitting on benches on 2 sides, there was singing, lots of monks and nuns. Everything was in Thai... some ceremony. I will have to try and look it up online. It was a cool sight.
I feel rude entering Wats where Thai monks live... i never know if its ok for a women to be there or how close I can get to the their buildings. I didn't get any overly strange looks so i think i was ok exploring.
Dinner... that evening was treat and random. I know I know I need a new word. I decided to check out the recommend restaurants in lonely planet because I thought it would be the best place to run in to some western travels. I needed a real conversation.
I found a lone other white guy that looked to have just finished a meal. I broken the silent first moment, asking how the food was.. then got invited to join him. He was definitely no the most interesting person I have met, but he was full of information about trains and buses. He was a quite one teaching English here of all places... it wasn't until he left to use the toilet... (they don't say bathroom here... only toilet) that the night became interesting and random. Another other white guy in his 50's say down alone behind us. I dropped the line... hows the book. I can't help talking to everyone. Paul ended up joining my table... Greg got back... Paul made an off based comment bout how Ko Samui was a peacefully island before the Tsunami... Greg argued... and shortly leave due to "early classes".
I was glad thou... Paul gave me a "free" psych session after confusing the hell out of me with topics ranging from life after death to the bodies lack of ability to improve after a certain level of achievement. He asked a free questions that i could answer about myself... and gave me lots to think about. It was an enlightening travel experience that I needed.
Ok... I am not the smartest person in the world sometimes... when travelling there are so many decisions to make, you can't help but make so bad ones. I took the train the next day to Suratthani... should have taken the bus would have saved me a 100baht moto ride, 1hour of my life, but it did save me from deciding to go stay at the whore hotel in the area. Lonely planet recommender the hotel 3 years ago... but taxi guy first wouldn't take me... then said i could look and if i didn't like he would take me to a different one. He was right... sometimes the motos are looking out for me.
The Budha on the small hill top forested Wat near Chaiya
Surat thani is a city like any other.. a few tourist stopping shortly before going to the island... lots of shopping and people are friendly to tourist because they don't see to many of us. I was only staying there is too a near by town called Chaiya.. has a
couple Wats and local areas of interest. GUESS WHAT... after a 2 hour adventure to get there.... and a little walk in the forest... I ENDED UP PAINTING IN A FOREST MONESTARY WITH A COUPLE Monks . I can't i do that every day... paint with monks in Thailand. Apparently is normally for kids but he made an exception :P It made my day.
